There were like two characters who would’ve made this book a lot better but none of them were given enough backstory or enough page time. No witty banter to make them stand out or anything. ![]() ![]() They kind of just existed in the nook of the MCs', like some ghosts of goodwill. The secondary characers also had so much potential yet they eventually became a distant memory. I don't dislike them really, I'm just like “meh ok, go do your thing in your corner”. Renegades was one big conglomerate of timeworn clichés and hackneyed superhero tropes, which would have gotten me so pumped-like, who cares? it’s time to read about overthrowing the government and burning the patriarchy to the ground-if at least the MCs managed to scratch a line into my heart. There must have been a dimensional hiccup in the timeline-how else could I go from being unambiguously and obsessively 100% full scale high key addicted to her books to just.being an aggressively disinterested bystander? ![]() It's like my heart closes for maintenance when it comes to anything else written by this author. I would have felt betrayed, not only by Nooria, which isn’t entirely surprising, but by Parvana’s mother! I felt hurt for Parvana just reading that passage knowing that she had toiled away for her family by pretending to be a boy (in the Breadwinner) and then that not only her sister but her mother had almost stolen that from her. I can only imagine the rage that Parvana would have felt in that moment. I was furious when I found out that Nooria had been accepted to university in the United States because she stole Parvana’s story. She has been treated so miserably both in the past as well as the present. For me this section of chapters evoked a lot of emotion, questions, and personal relations. ![]() 5/20/2023 0 Comments Life and fate vasily![]() Presenting a vast panorama of World War II centered on the story of several individual heroes, “Life and Fate” has been compared to Tolstoy’s “War and Peace.” It is not a literary masterpiece Boris Pasternak regarded only “60 pages” in Grossman’s earlier 600-page novel, “For the Right Cause” (which foreshadowed the first part of “Life and Fate”), as “genuine.” The Russian poet Polina Barskova, who has written about Grossman, reports that Anna Akhmatova apparently did not bother to read “For the Right Cause.
